Hakuba ski rental guide. The Hakuba region in Nagano Prefecture is a skiing village made up of many ski resorts. It has hosted the Winter Olympics and has a high proportion of foreign visitors, particularly Australians. More than 50% of the people you’ll meet on the street are Australians. Many shops are run by European and American expats, and they are generally more English-friendly. You can reach Hakuba by taking the Hokuriku Shinkansen from Tokyo to Nagano Station and then transferring to a bus to Hakuba, or by taking a bus from either Tokyo Airport or the city center.

There are many ski rental shops in the area outside of the ski resorts, offer a wider selection of snowboards from different brands and different levels of equipment. Additionally, transportation between ski resorts in this area relies on buses. During peak hours, buses can be very crowded. If you rent your equipment from a shop outside of the ski resorts, the shop will usually provide a shuttle service when you rent and return your equipment (usually with the requirement of renting one set of equipment per person). **You can also purchase the fastest Skyliner from Narita Airport to downtown Tokyo on Klook and KKday to catch the Shinkansen and arrive in Hakuba as quickly as possible.
